Are DIY Flowers for You?

Designing your own wedding flower arrangements can be a great way to stretch a wedding budget.  If you have a floral design background and tribe of people to help, it can be a fun pre-wedding activity. But if not, here are some important considerations:

  • Do you want your final day as a single person to be spent working on flowers?  DIY flowers add stress and guess work for you, your wedding party, and family.  Would you rather have brunch, get manicures, and prep with rehearsal or get dirty and messy designing flowers?  Floral design is real work, so be honest with yourself.

  • Do you have the floral supplies you need to design flowers?  Vases, floral mechanics, tape, scissors, floral food, setting spray, etc. are all part of professional floral design, so add those expenses into your budget.

  • Can you buy the quantity and quality of hard goods you need and store them?  Florists supply vases, urns, candles, lanterns, pedestals, arches, chuppahs, etc. and hold that inventory for you in advance of your wedding day.

  • Do you know how to prep, hydrate, and condition flowers?  Do you have a floral cooler to optimize their environment?

  • How will you store completed floral designs?  Do you have enough room for completed bridal party, ceremony, and reception pieces?

  • How will you transport your flowers to your wedding and reception?  What vehicles are available, do they have air conditioning and tinted windows?

A popular option for some of our wedding couples looking to maximize their budget is an A La Carte mix of professionally designed flowers and DIY Buckets of Blooms: We design Bridal Party and Ceremony flowers and provide DIY Buckets of Blooms for Reception Centerpieces.  You pick up your Buckets of Blooms a day early and pick up Bridal Party and Ceremony flowers the morning of your wedding.  Contact us to learn more!
